Five Self-Help Books That Will Change Your Life

Updated: Dec 10, 2022

Books that strengthen your mental fortitude.

The quality of books you read and the application you draw from them significantly improve your personal development journey. The books listed below have genuinely changed my life and approach to life, allowing me to grow and improve. I believe that we should all be improving every day.

  1. Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson — This is one of the first self-help books I read. It fundamentally changed the way I approach all aspects of life. Until then, I knew I wanted to change but hadn’t done it. This book helps me embrace the continual changes and prompts me to get out of my comfort zone. It’s a beautifully written book with great storytelling and an even bigger message to inspire the changes you need to make. Bonus: it’s also an easy read. https://www.amazon.com/Who-Moved-My-Cheese-published/dp/B06WGR1PW5/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1664458062&sr=8-1

  2. Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth — This is one of my all-time favorite books and is also one of my reference books. Duckworth gives you the knowledge that explains what grit truly means and describes how “being gritty” can make you successful. Then, she explains and shows research for why this works and offers tips on how to be gritty in life. https://www.amazon.com/Grit-Passion-Perseverance-Angela-Duckworth/dp/1501111116/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1DVN430E6FK2&keywords=grit+angela+duckworth&qid=1664458148&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjc0IiwicXNhIjoiMS4zMyIsInFzcCI6IjEuNTAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=Grit+%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-1

  3. Atomic Habits by James Clear — This book contains abundant good advice and many great points that you may need to read twice to absorb the full scope of all the information. Clear hammers in how you can change bad habits to good habits, all while weaving in his own story and why habits are so important to him. https://www.amazon.com/Atomic-Habits-Proven-Build-Break/dp/0735211299/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1664458251&sr=8-1

  4. The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale — Peale’s novel focuses on the power of thinking to change not just self-talk but your life. The book shows you the power of optimism and gives you the desire to stay inspired. I think this book should be a part of your personal development journey, but it’s not for everyone.https://www.amazon.com/Power-Positive-Thinking-Norman-Vincent/dp/0091947456/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1664458349&sr=8-1

  5. Mastery by Robert Greene — This book focuses on mastering your skills and why mastery is crucial to success. It explains why some of history’s favorite geniuses need to be studied, not for being geniuses, but more for their techniques and approaches to skill building. https://www.amazon.com/Mastery-Robert-Greene/dp/0670024961/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1664458472&sr=8-1
